Prepare with commonly asked questions for this role
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) is a broad term that refers to any machine tool (like a lathe, router, or mill) controlled by a computer. VMC (Vertical Machining Center) is a specific type of CNC milling machine where the spindle axis is oriented vertically. All VMCs are CNC machines, but not all CNC machines are VMCs.
A CMM is a highly precise device used in manufacturing and quality control to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of a part. It uses a probe to map the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the component's surface, ensuring that the manufactured part exactly matches the required design specifications and tolerances, which is critical in aerospace engineering.
GD&T is a universal system of symbols and rules used on engineering drawings to accurately define the allowable variation in form, orientation, and location of a part's features. It ensures that precision components fit and function correctly in mechanical assemblies, minimizing manufacturing costs while maximizing quality.
Common materials include Aluminum alloys (lightweight and good strength), Titanium alloys (exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and high heat/corrosion resistance), and various Composites like Carbon Fiber (extremely light and strong). These materials are chosen specifically because aerospace components require maximum structural integrity with the lowest possible weight to ensure fuel efficiency and safety.
I am deeply passionate about precision manufacturing, and IMAPL’s rapid growth since 2017 as a strategic supplier to global aerospace OEMs is highly impressive. The structured Graduate Engineer Trainee programme offers the exact hands-on shop-floor experience, mentorship, and exposure to advanced tooling and machining that I need to build a strong foundation as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace sector.
