About ZS
Where it started: Two Kellogg School of Management marketing professors — Andris Zoltners and Prabhakant Sinha — built sales-force sizing and territory alignment models in the early ’80s. In 1982, Andy presented his and Prabha’s mathematical models to the Pharmaceutical Management Science Association, using an early Apple computer to display sales territories on-site. That demo landed them their first clients, and in 1983 they formalized it as ZS Associates — the “Z” and “S” are literally their initials.
What it grew into: ZS Associates is a management consulting and professional services firm focusing on consulting, software, and technology, headquartered in Evanston, Illinois. It later dropped “Associates” and now goes simply by ZS. The firm leverages data, science, technology, and human ingenuity to drive measurable impact for clients, partnering with organizations to refine business strategies, optimize product portfolios, and identify new avenues for growth.
Scale (2025-2026 data):
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Employees | 17,824 globally as of December 2025, up 14% from the prior year |
| Workforce concentration | India accounts for ~68.2%, followed by the US (20.2%) and Argentina (2.8%, fastest-growing) |
| Offices | More than 13,000 employees across 35 offices in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia |
| Client focus | 90% of the work is focused in life sciences, ZS’s largest and fastest-growing sector |
Recent moves that matter for tech candidates:
- ZS acquired Torrent Consulting in October 2025 to enhance its healthcare and Salesforce capabilities, and launched agentic AI applications for life sciences — ZAIDYN Medical and ZAIDYN Content — in May 2026.
- ZS was named a Leader in IDC MarketScape for Life Sciences R&D Strategic Consulting in May 2026, and was separately recognized as the highest-designated Leader in Everest Group’s 2025 Life Sciences AI and Analytics Services PEAK Matrix.
- Its tech stack is broad rather than proprietary-only — the firm reportedly uses 47 technology products and services, including HTML5, Amazon Route 53, and Google Drive.
- Engineering is ZS’s fastest-growing internal function, up 10.4% year over year, alongside Sales & Marketing as the largest functional groups.
Bottom line for a job seeker: ZS sits at the intersection of consulting and applied data science — heavy in pharma/life-sciences analytics, growing fast in AI-driven consulting tools, and increasingly building software (not just advising on it). Good fit if you want client-facing exposure plus real engineering/analytics work, rather than pure dev-shop coding.
